The “2025 EE Awards Asia” was held on 12/5 (Friday) at the Grand Mayfull Hotel Taipei. A cross-disciplinary research team from National Formosa University (NFU), led by Prof. Yi-Ling Yeh from the Department of Biotechnology and Associate Prof. Wu-Chieh Lin from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, stood out among 170 companies and more than 400 entries worldwide with their project “Automated Cell Viability Analysis,” winning the Innovation Award and showcasing NFU’s research excellence in the fields of AI and biotechnology applications.
The “EE Awards Asia,” organized by the ASPENCORE Taiwan/Asia team under the EE Times and EDN publishing group, follows the spirit of “co-creating the future with the electronics industry and changing the world together with engineers.” The competition features six major award categories and 35 awards, including Product Awards (Taiwan/Asia), Technology Platform Awards, Industry Service Awards, Innovation Awards, and Recommendation Awards, to honor outstanding achievements in technical breakthroughs, product innovation, and ecosystem contributions within the electronics industry.
NFU’s cross-disciplinary team, formed by the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering and the Department of Biotechnology, was recommended by NXP Semiconductors to participate with their project “Automated Cell Viability Analysis,” which ultimately won the Innovation Award. The project supports advancements in cancer immunotherapy technology and improves quality management efficiency in the cell therapy industry.
NFU’s award-winning project, “Automated Cell Viability Analysis,” uses CD3 staining and AI technology to detect and classify cell viability in real time. This breakthrough overcomes the limitations of current testing equipment, which still requires waiting for laboratory results. Physicians can now understand a patient’s immune cell activity instantly during clinical consultation, enabling them to provide optimal immunotherapy treatment.
