Fubon UBA — Traveling from Hsinchu to Cheer for His Alma Mater: Max Highlights Three Junior Teammates’ Outstanding Performances
Yankees Engineering’s foreign student forward—and National Formosa University (NFU) alumnus—Max wrapped up training in Hsinchu today (Dec. 5) and immediately headed south to Yunlin to personally cheer for his alma mater in the Fubon Life UBA University Basketball League. With a big smile, he said he was “already very excited.” Even though he is now playing professionally, he remains closely connected to the status of his junior teammates, confidently predicting, “This year’s champion will be NFU!”
Max shared that he was especially looking forward to the UBA being held in Huwei this year. “We used to really want to play at our home court in Huwei, but back then we had just been promoted to Division I and didn’t have the opportunity to host. So this time I really wanted to come back and see it.” Currently living in Kaohsiung, he explained that passing through Yunlin on weekends is common for him. “So I just took the high-speed rail down. It worked out perfectly—watch the game first, then head back to Kaohsiung.”
When asked which younger players impressed him the most, Max immediately named three: No. 0 Kuo Chun-Yen, No. 16 Cha Chieh, and No. 7 Yang Cheng-En. He explained, “Kuo Chun-Yen may not be the youngest, but he played in the Jones Cup with the Chinese Taipei team this summer, so his skills are very mature. I really like Cha Chieh’s playing style. As for No. 7, I know he was the HBL Finals MVP—I still can’t pronounce his Chinese name—but he plays at his own rhythm, controls the ball steadily, which is really impressive for such a young player.” He emphasized that NFU strengthens its lineup every year, saying, “Our team gets stronger year after year.”
Max also made a prediction for the team’s season performance. Without hesitation, he fully backed his alma mater: “First place! Definitely first place. What else can I say? I really hope that’s how it ends.” His confidence in his younger teammates was clear.
