1.Amid rapidly evolving great power competition and security challenges, shifts in U.S. foreign policy are reshaping transatlantic relations, prompting Europe to reconsider its global role and defense strategy. The rise of China as a systemic challenger further underscores the need for democratic nations to coordinate on trade, technology, and value-based diplomacy.
2.This conference brings together scholars and policy experts to explore U.S. foreign policy developments, European responses, and the prospects for transatlantic cooperation, with a particular focus on strategic competition with China, policy coordination, and geopolitical implications. Additionally, the conference will examine the impact of emerging technologies on defense resilience, discussing how artificial intelligence, drones, and cyber capabilities are reshaping security strategy, while exploring Taiwan's role in regional defense architecture and considering how the U.S., Europe, and their partners can respond to twenty-first-century uncertainties.
3.The conference is hosted by the College of International Affairs, National Chung Cheng University, and co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Graduate Institute of International Politics at National Chung Hsing University, the Executive Master’s Program in National Security and Mainland China Studies at National Chung Cheng University, the European Studies Program, and the Office of Research and Development.
